Overview

ClubFR8 is a deals and community platform for truckers. It had good deals but flat listings, a small owned audience, and no revenue model. I led the redesign and the plan to ship it with Engineering.

Problem

Every deal looked the same, so nothing could be sold

With no visual priority, users had to scan everything, and premium space didn’t exist. The redesign plan had already gone through four versions, and the build needed clear ownership between Creative and Engineering.

Approach

Design the hierarchy first, then make it sellable

01

Three-tier deal cards

Editor’s Pick, Sponsored and Standard cards set a clear order — and reserve space brand partners can buy.

02

Template system

Built with the product director, so new deals drop into templates instead of fresh designs.

03

Micro-phase build plan

The redesign became small phases, each with a named owner on Creative or Engineering.

04

Audience plan

Newsletter, eForm2290 banner activation and a paid test — shaped by lessons from GasBuddy and Way.com.

What I learned

“I treated the UI as a business model, not a skin. The card hierarchy is what makes brand partnerships sellable — design decided the revenue path.”
